Becoming a Member of the Reading with Rover D.R.E.A.M. Team!
Following are the steps outlining the required protocol to join the Reading with Rover D.R.E.A.M. dog team.
•   Register with Reading with Rover as a D.R.E.A.M. (Dogs for Reading, Education, Assistance and More) dog team or with Delta Society as a Pet Partner® team (there is a formal evaluation/test with both organizations).
•  Volunteer 10 hours in your choice of locations which may include nursing homes, hospitals, etc. One of those 10 hours will be at Northaven II Assisted Living in North Seattle. Northaven is a setting much like a typical Reading with Rover event with lots of dogs and people all in the same small area. Most new volunteers like to make this their first visit as there are experienced mentors on site to meet you and give you pointers about how to make visiting a positive experience for you and your dog. You may set up your Northaven visit by emailing Annemarie Kaighin. Annemarie must be there to monitor your Northaven visit. Visits to Northaven are typically on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 7:00-8:00 PM. Please visit our Events page to see when our next Northaven visit is scheduled.
•   Shadow a Reading with Rover D.R.E.A.M. dog team (without your dog) at three different Reading with Rover events. These visits can be done at any time, starting now. All shadow visits must be done with an authorized Reading with Rover mentor present.
•   Keep a written log of your visits. Record where you visit, the time you spent there, the dates and contact name(s) and phone number(s). After you complete your 10 volunteer hours and have faxed your log sheet to Reading with Rover at 425-984-0249 you are then eligible to start your shadowed visits with your dog.
•   Shadow a Reading with Rover D.R.E.A.M. dog team (with your dog) at three different Reading with Rover events. These are done after completing 10 volunteer hours. Shadow visits must be with an authorized Reading with Rover mentor present. During these shadow visits you and your dog may be assigned to greet people as they arrive and let children pet your dog.
•   CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are now eligible to be an official Reading with Rover D.R.E.A.M. dog team. Let the Reading begin!!!
All the best,
The entire Reading with Rover Team
