| Welcome to Reading with Rover! |
| |
| There is an exciting program here in the Northwest that involves kids, dogs and literacy. The program is called Reading with Rover. |
| |
| Reading with Rover is a community-based literacy program volunteering in the schools, bookstores and libraries in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. It is our goal, as volunteers and founders of Reading with Rover, to make the "Rover" program available to all schools, reading and learning facilities that would like to enhance their reading programs. |
| |
| In the "Rover" program, children with reading difficulties actually read stories to a dog and the dog loves listening! A child who may be hesitant to read aloud to his peers is typically less stressed when reading to a dog and the dog never judges the child's reading ability. |
| |
| Implementing the program takes time, money, and more importantly, it takes good people with good dogs to succeed! |
| |
| | The first step toward getting involved is being evaluated with your dog and becoming a registered therapy team through Reading with Rover or Delta Society® Pet Partners®. Therapy evaluation preparation classes are always on the group training curriculum at Puppy Manners in Woodinville and My Puppy Nanny in Snohomish. Puppies are welcome too! You may as well get off on the right paw and when your puppy is a year old (the minimum age of a therapy dog in either organization), he or she can join the Rover Team! |
| |
If you are interested in Reading with Rover, if you have a good dog OR a potential "Rover in the making", we would like to talk to you. There are programs available to help train you and your dog to become a registered therapy team--the first step toward participation in the Reading with Rover program. Preparing for and taking the test, meeting the protocol and getting your badge is a process that will bring you much closer to your dog, your community and yourself as you give back to those who can really use your help. |
| |
| Being a registered therapy team also allows you to do visitations at schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. There are boundless opportunities to help your community with your registered therapy dog. | |
| The Reading with Rover program is a proud affiliate of the R.E.A.D® Program from Intermountain Therapy Animals in Salt Lake City, Utah. | |
| Thank you for your interest in Reading with Rover! We look forward to seeing you at a Reading with Rover session! | |
